Definition
THEAMF, or Financial Market Authority, is an independent public institution in France. She is responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of financial markets, the protection of investors and the stability of financial systems. Created in 2003, the AMF succeeds the Commission des Opérations de Bourse (COB) and also includes the Financial Markets Council (CMF) and the Financial Management Disciplinary Council (CDGF).
The AMF fulfills several key missions:
- Supervision of financial markets : It ensures the transparency of transactions, controls listed companies and financial intermediaries.
- Investor protection : The AMF verifies the conformity of financial products, informs the public about risks and fights against fraudulent practices.
- Regulation and sanctions : It adapts French rules to European standards (MiFID II, MiCA), investigates offences such as insider trading and applies administrative or pecuniary sanctions in the event of a breach.
